Irvine rules out Gunter bid

Alan Irvine has ruled out an imminent move to bring Tottenham Hotspur full-back Chris Gunter to Preston North End on loan. Gunter has been linked with a loan move to Deepdale as Spurs boss Harry Redknapp looks to give the Wales international more experience. The youngster has not played a Premier League game since October and has also been linked with Preston's Championship rivals Queens Park Rangers. Preston boss Irvine is a fan of the former Cardiff City youngster, but feels right-back is not an area of his squad he currently needs to strengthen. "I'm led to believe that Chris Gunter is available, but I've not spoken to Harry Redknapp," said Irvine. "Back in January I was told the same thing and I did speak to Harry and was told that that wasn't the case. "I don't know if Chris is necessarily the position that we need at this time, we did at the time, when I was making the call, but unfortunately we weren't able to do it at that time. "I like him as a player and certainly if it is something that we feel we need, a full-back, he would be someone that I would make an enquiry about."
