Irvine excited by Spurs tie

Preston manager Alan Irvine admitted he is relishing the prospect of facing Tottenham in the Carling Cup third round at Deepdale. Spurs have reached the final of the competition in the past two seasons, beating Chelsea to win the trophy in 2008 before losing on penalties to Manchester United last term. Harry Redknapp's men are currently riding high in the Barclays Premier League after winning their opening four fixtures to stand level with Chelsea at the top of the table. Irvine said: "It's a great draw for us, especially considering how Tottenham are doing right now. "They are going extremely well. I said I wanted someone at home from outside of our division. "I either wanted a team from the division below, which no disrespect to them, would give us a better chance of getting through, or one of the big buys and I hope this game excited the fans as much as it excites me."
