Tottenham defender Ledley King admits he feared his career at White Hart Lane was over because of chronic knee problems. The defender says he started to doubt whether he could still perform in the Barclays Premier League after struggling with knee injuries for years. But after helping Spurs beat Liverpool 2-1 on the opening day of the season, the England international feels the worst of it is behind him now. He said: 'It's difficult. Doubt can start to creep in. You wonder if you've got the sharpness and the stamina. 'I've not really had the training preparation. I've been working, doing my own thing, which stood me in good stead last season, working off the pitch, in the pool. It seems to work. 'I've had to be strong. I've developed a new mental toughness and that seems to be working.' King's knee trouble limits him to one match a week and he is prevented from training with the rest of the squad, so he is unlikely to face Hull tomorrow.
