Hutton eager to play a part
Alan Hutton has expressed a desire to play in Scotland's World Cup qualifier against Holland on Saturday. The 24-year-old has been out of action for Tottenham since November after fracturing a bone in his foot but is determined to prove his fitness in a Spurs reserve team game on Monday night.
The right-back's last outing was for Scotland against Argentina at Hampden Park four months ago and his club manager Harry Redknapp is believed to be sceptical about his player making himself available so soon after returning to training.
Scotland manager George Burley will be keeping a close eye on the second string encounter and Hutton is looking forward to the challenge.
"It's a big task but I believe in my own ability," he said.
"I've been working hard for months and training for two weeks so if I'm asked to play it won't be a problem.
"The reserve game might not be as high a standard but it's still game time and I'll have a full week to train when I get back up there.
"That'll be bordering on three weeks full training plus a game and in my eyes that's enough and I should be fine."
Impressed Scotland are currently second in Group Nine with four points from three games but find themselves five points behind the Dutch, who have taken maximum points from their opening matches.
Despite their low points return the former Rangers ace has been impressed with manager Burley after he took over from Alex McLeish last January.
"I think he's done well," he added. "He's put his own ideas into place.
"We seem to be solid and have the players to attack teams. It was always going to be hard because we'd done well under the previous managers but at the end of the day, it's the same players.
"He's worked with some big players and has been around the block and everyone gives him respect like they should, because he's the international manager.
"We go to Amsterdam not expecting anything, everything's on them. They have to beat us.
"So we can go there as underdogs, play the way we do and if we pick up something or sneak a goal and happen to win then it's a massive result for us."
