Huddlestone has Hoddle magic - HR

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp has compared Tom Huddlestone to Glenn Hoddle and told the midfielder he has a bright future at White Hart Lane.Huddlestone's passing ability has put him on the radar of Fabio Capello - the England manager recently named him as one of his promising young players - but the 22-year-old has struggled for a regular place under Redknapp. The Spurs boss wants Huddlestone to demand the ball more so he can use his passing range."He has the fantastic playing ability like Hoddle, to spray the ball all over the park," Redknapp said. "If he is as good as Glenn he will be a great player as Glenn was fantastic."Sometimes he has to boss a game more. He is like a quarter-back, he can deliver a pass on a sixpence from 40 yards with his left foot or right foot. He can put people in, he has the talent to do that."But he has to keep getting the ball and sometimes he does not demand the ball enough and he does not take the game by the scruff of the neck."I said this morning to him he has to get at people. If they don't give it to him, he has to tell them 'Give me the ball. I am a better passer than you. You get it, give it to me and I will deliver the passes'."Demanding the ball is against Huddlestone's quiet nature, which also means he is not the type to knock on the manager's door to ask why he is not in the team."He is a quiet guy, but he has so much talent," Redknapp added.Huddlestone recently admitted he has fears over his Spurs future but Redknapp wants to keep him at the club."I see him being a big part of the future as I see he has great talent," the Spurs boss continued."I understand his [frustration]. He and Michael Dawson want to play all the time. He is unlucky not to play every week as when he has played he has been fantastic. But if we are going to keep pushing on and to be a bigger, better club then you need that squad and competition for places."Making progress next season would require Redknapp keeping his best players, and he wants to make sure there is no repeat of last summer when Robbie Keane and Dimitar Berbatov left."We need to build," Redknapp said. "Last year they lost a couple of key players last minute which did not help. Robbie and Berbatov went and we can't be in that position this year."I know the players I want. I have two or three players in mind that I would like to bring here, and if I can get them we will be a decent team."Keane has since returned to Spurs and is likely to lead the team out against West Ham this weekend.Huddlestone could be given the chance to impress but Didier Zokora is also in contention to deputise for Wilson Palacios, who is suspended following his dismissal against Blackburn last week.[LNB]
