Huddlestone eyes senior role

Tottenham's Tom Huddlestone wants to force his way into the plans of England manager Fabio Capello. The Spurs midfielder is capable of operating in a variety of roles and has recently been filling in at centre-back to cope with his club's injury problems in that position. Such versatility has proved popular with England bosses in the past and Huddlestone, who was capped 34 times at U21 level, hopes Capello is looking for similar attributes. The 22-year-old has been on the fringes of senior squads and he is hopeful he can go one better in a season which ends with a World Cup. "I had four-and-a-half years with the Under 21s. That was enjoyable but I'm too old now," said Huddlestone. "The next step is the senior squad so hopefully I'll be able to kick on and get in that squad. "I've been in the last two preliminary squads but not managed to get in the final 23. I'm going along the right path hopefully."
