Hopping mad Spurs boss Redknapp tells Peter Crouch to dance to his beat

Harry Redknapp will issue a stern reminder to his Tottenham players to stay away from nightclubs after Peter Crouch was pictured partying into the early hours of Sunday morning. The Spurs manager plans to deal with the issue in-house after Crouch, along with team-mates Jonathan Woodgate, Robbie Keane and Jermaine Jenas, chose to celebrate Tottenham’s victory over Portsmouth on Saturday at the popular London club Movida. The players are expected to escape a fine, despite earlier warnings by Redknapp that nightclubs are strictly out of bounds. The manager will take into account the fact that the players were with wives and girlfriends. Redknapp was disappointed after pictures in yesterday’s Sportsmail showed Crouch in the club wearing sweat-stained clothes and then, as he left the premises at 2am, climbing through the roof of the people carrier as it drove him and girlfriend Abbey Clancy. Although he is satisfied that Crouch and company have done nothing to sully the club’s name, Redknapp feels the mixture of his players, nightclubs and paparazzi must be avoided. However, Redknapp still has unsavoury late-night incidents involving Ledley King and David Bentley fresh in his memory and has clearly decided that prevention is the best cure when it comes to protecting Tottenham’s image. Soon after the start of the season, Redknapp, in a Sportsmail exclusive interview, warned players he wanted to get rid of the nightclub reputation around the club. saying: ‘I don’t want to see them rolling out of nightclubs at three in the morning.’ Crouch’s ‘dancing partner’ Woodgate is ready to make his comeback against Stoke on Saturday after playing 90 minutes for Tottenham in a friendly against Dagenham and Redbridge on Tuesday. Woodgate has been plagued by injury since the end of last season and has struggled to overcome a groin problem, despite having two operations during the summer. There were fears that the England defender would need a third operation, but Woodgate has responded well to an injection and has finally made a successful return to action. After playing for an hour last week, Woodgate showed Redknapp that he has overcome his injury hell when he played the full game and helped his team record a 3-0 win over Dagenham. Roman Pavlyuchenko also staked his claim for a first-team place with two goals and will be hoping to get the nod when Jermain Defoe starts a three-match ban this weekend.
