Hertha quiet on Pavlyuchenko

Hertha Berlin general manager Michael Preetz has declined to comment on rumours suggesting the club were close to signing Roman Pavlyuchenko from Tottenham Hotspur. It was claimed the Bundesliga side were on the verge of a season-long loan deal for the Russia international, who has struggled to make a significant impact in the Premier League. Pavlyuchenko joined Spurs from Spartak Moscow for around £13.5million in 2008 but has scored just five league goals in 30 appearances. Robbie Keane, Jermain Defoe and new signing Peter Crouch also appear ahead of Pavlyuchenko in the pecking order at White Hart Lane. A year-long deal away from North London had been mooted, but Preetz told BILD: "The transfer window has closed and I am not prepared to make comments on things like that."
