Harry waiting on Vieira news

Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp admits his pursuit of Inter Milan midfielder Patrick Vieira has stalled. The Spurs chief has made the acquisition of a new centre-half his immediate priority, with the North London outfit currently short on options in that area. He is, however, still keen to explore other avenues, with a defensive midfielder featuring prominently on his wish list. A move for former Arsenal ace Vieria has been sounded out, with the France international facing an uncertain future in Italy, but Redknapp has revealed that he is unsure as to how talks are progressing. "Patrick was someone I was interested in but I'm not sure where that's gone. It's not developed," he said. Redknapp is, however, confident that former Arsenal star Vieria is keen on a move to Spurs. "I'm still interested in Patrick, I would like him," Redknapp said after the friendly 1-1 draw against Barcelona at Wembley. "What's he done wrong? He hasn't killed anyone, he's just a great player who played for Arsenal. "If he wants to come to Tottenham it shows you about his character. He wants to come and play, he's a fantastic player and wants to play here." Talks Spurs are also reported to be interested in Real Madrid enforcer Lassana Diarra, a player Redknapp signed during his days at Portsmouth. A tentative enquiry has been made to Real, but a deal looks unlikely. "We spoke to Real Madrid and made an enquiry but there was nothing doing," added Redknapp. The experienced coach has also moved to distance Spurs from speculation suggesting David Beckham could be heading to White Hart Lane in January once he is free from his commitments with LA Galaxy. "David's a great player and a great professional but we have players in that position so nothing will happen there," Redknapp told the Daily Mail. Meanwhile, Redknapp has admitted that Tottenham are set to bid for Portsmouth striker Peter Crouch, but he accepts that the money on the table may not be enough to tempt Pompey into a sale.
