Harry Redknapp: Spurs will never be a big club until we get a big stadium

Harry Redknapp has warned that Tottenham will continue to be bullied out of deals for the highest earners in football unless they move to a bigger stadium.[LNB]Redknapp's hopes of bringing in a star striker appear to have stalled, with Spurs unwilling to break their strict wage structure to sign a hitman of the calibre of Diego Forlan or Luis Fabiano from Spain.[LNB]Whilst clubs like Manchester City, Manchester United and Chelsea can afford to pay well in excess of ?100,000 a week to their biggest players, Spurs' top earners take home much less.[LNB] Small earner: Luka Modric (left) is in the little league compared to the top wagemen[LNB]The likes of Luka Modric and club captain Ledley King, for example, are thought to earn no more than ?80,000 a week.[LNB]Tottenham are currently going head to head with West Ham in the race to occupy the Olympic Stadium after the London 2012 Games.[LNB]Redknapp is in favour of moving to the 60,000-capacity venue after the Games and believes that the extra revenue generated from matchday sales will help the north London club take a big step towards their development into one of the biggest and attractive clubs in the country.[LNB]'Most Champions League players are on massive wages, it's very difficult (to sign them),' Redknapp said.[LNB]'We don't pay massive wages. We've got a stadium that holds 36,000 people. That's our problem at the moment, we can't make the next step.[LNB] No place like home: Spurs want the Olympic Stadium after the 2012 Games[LNB]'We're that close, but making that extra step is difficult, because top players demand top wages, that is a simple fact, and we can't put ourselves in a position where we pay that sort of money.[LNB]'If we had a 60,000 or 70,000 stadium it would be different. We can't go that extra yard at the moment.[LNB]'We've got a great squad of players, but if you start talking about getting a top striker in, they cost incredible money.'[LNB]For that reason Redknapp admits the chances of him landing a striker before Monday's transfer deadline are impossible - even though reports suggest he's offered ?25m for Newcastle's Andy Carroll.[LNB]'There's no chance, I wouldn't have thought,' he added.[LNB]'I'm not unhappy with the strikers we've got. Who's going to loan us a top player - someone who is better than (Roman) Pavlyuchenko, (Peter) Crouch or (Robbie) Keane?[LNB]'Liverpool are not going to loan (Fernando) Torres to us are they, and Chelsea won't loan (Didier) Drogba.'[LNB] Spurs make Newcastle owner Mike Ashley a ?25m offer for striker Andy CarrollHammer time for Keane as Tottenham striker nears switch to West HamRedknapp warns Tottenham to break the bank to keep Bale at the LaneJuande we'll be together: Ex-Spurs boss Ramos targets Dos SantosEngland skipper Ferdinand backs West Ham for Olympic stadiumTottenham's new man Khumalo can be the next Radebe, says MabbuttAll the latest Tottenham news, features and opinion[LNB]  Explore more:People: Harry Redknapp, Luka Modric, Andy Carroll, Ledley King Places: Newcastle, Liverpool, London, Spain, Olympic Stadium
