Harry Redknapp ready to play Peter Crouch in threeman Tottenham attack

With Darren Bent due to complete his move to Sunderland for a club-record fee of around £12 million on Wednesday, Redknapp wanted Crouch for the extra options he can provide. He regards it as good business to have made an immediate profit on effectively replacing one England forward with another. With his aerial presence, Crouch can play alone up front, in a two-man attack, but also as the central striker in a potential three-pronged forward line with Keane and Defoe. Redknapp also has the option of Roman Pavlyuchenko and will further experiment with his forwards against West Ham on Wednesday in the first match of the Premier League Asia Trophy tournament in China. Although Crouch was also the subject of a £12 million bid from Sunderland, he said that Tottenham had always been his first choice, particularly because of the chance to work with Redknapp for the fourth time in his career. "It's about joining a massive football club which has no limit to where it can go," said Crouch, who has now attracted transfer fees of £33.5 million during his career. Redknapp added: "He will be a big, big player for us. We've got some fantastic strikers and I could play all of them." Redknapp is still hoping to sign a defender, but is now doubtful about the possibility of bringing in former Arsenal captain Patrick Vieira. Bent, meanwhile, is due for a medical at Sunderland on Wednesday, but on Tuesday night Hull and Aston Villa threatened to scupper the deal after stating their intent to match Spurs’ £14 million valuation for the striker.
