Manchester City and Tottenham each went into Sunday's crunch Barclays Premier League clash at the Etihad Stadium with attacks spearheaded by strikers in potent form.
Both having accrued a total of 18 goals for the season so far, City frontman Sergio Aguero had scored nine in his last nine games in all competitions, while Spurs counterpart Harry Kane had seven goals in his last nine top-flight appearances.

GOAL THREAT
This was one occasion when Aguero simply did not look his usual, lethal self. Had a very quiet first half and when a decent opportunity presented itself early in the second with the score still at 0-0, he blazed it into the stand.
Kane had also made little impact before the break, but he emphatically took his chance when it arrived in the 53rd minute thanks to a hugely controversial penalty decision, the England striker firing in the spot-kick in confident fashion. Almost added another goal late on with a strike from distance that went just the wrong side of the post.
WORK RATE
Although Aguero was far from his best, he was doing everything he could to make a difference. A number of attempted combinations with Yaya Toure broke down to leave him frustrated, and he provided a great cross in the dying moments that Hugo Lloris did well to tip away from Nicolas Otamendi's head.
Kane worked hard as well, with Christian Eriksen the man he linked with most often. Was actually less 'involved' in many ways than Aguero overall, but proved to have a bigger say where it really counted.
OVERALL IMPACT
Aguero certainly did not play really poorly but like most of their attackers, City ultimately needed more from him. Kane too has performed better than he did here, but he put in a commendable shift and did the basic job that was required of him, popping up with a composed finish.
