Harry backs Shearer rescue

Harry Redknapp has backed Alan Shearer to save Newcastle from relegation this season.[LNB] The Magpies are two points from safety and face Redknapp's Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Sunday, live on Sky Sports.[LNB]And the Spurs boss reckons Shearer is the ideal candidate to keep the St James' Park outfit in the Premier League.[LNB]"It was a fantastic appointment," Redknapp said on Shearer becoming temporary Newcastle manager following Joe Kinnear's extended absence.[LNB]"They couldn't have picked anyone better than Alan Shearer - he was the one person who could get the place a massive lift like he has.[LNB]"He has fantastic knowledge of the game and what he achieved in the game makes him one of the all-time great players. If anyone can pull Newcastle around Alan is the man to do it."[LNB]Shearer has been thrown in at the deep end - but Redknapp feels he can cope despite it being his first job in management.[LNB]Dalglish"If you look at Liverpool when they took Kenny Dalglish, what a job he did there," Redknapp said. "He came straight out of playing into managing. When you have that type of knowledge that Alan has got it is not a problem."[LNB]Shearer's men will be looking to inflict only Spurs' second home defeat since Redknapp's arrival.[LNB]Their run has put them in the hunt for a seventh-placed finish, which should earn a spot in next season's Europa League.[LNB]"If we could make Europe it would be a massive achievement from where we started, which was two points from eight games." Redknapp added.[LNB]"Staying in the Premier League was the main thing, we were in a relegation struggle and are only just out of it."[LNB]
