Gylfi Sigurdsson looking for Tottenham to kick on towards finishing post

Gylfi Sigurdsson is looking for Tottenham Hotspur to strike the right balance between graft and guile during their run-in. Spurs had to dig deep during a Europa League clash with Basel on Thursday, as they bowed out of the competition on penalties after playing for over half an hour on a heavy surface with 10 men. Elimination from Europe will allow Andre Villas-Boas' side to focus their full attention on Premier League duties over the coming weeks, with the battle for a top-four finish seemingly set to go down to the wire. Sigurdsson concedes that Spurs will need to grind out results if they are to book a UEFA Champions League spot, with this no time to be playing importance on an eye-catching brand of football. He said: "We showed character in Basel. They are a good team at home, they are hard to beat and we had 10 men for 34 minutes when Jan Vertonghen was sent off. "It was a test of that character, and we did really well to take the match to penalties. We showed great spirit. "We have done well in Europe, but it is the business end of the season and we have to make sure we win as many games as possible. "We have played well, but it is about making sure you win the scrappy games. "It is about getting points, not just playing good football. We have to try to make sure we do both."
