William Gallas moved a step closer to making his Tottenham debut after playing 70 minutes of a training ground friendly against QPR. Former Arsenal captain Gallas, who completed a controversial move to White Hart Lane last month, helped a Spurs XI to a 3-1 victory on Tuesday.

The 33-year-old is building up his match fitness, having not had a pre-season. And with Michael Dawson ruled out for up to eight weeks with ligament damage, Gallas may now be in the squad for Saturday's Barclays Premier League game at West Brom.

Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley both played 90 minutes, the latter having recently recovered from an ankle injury. Coach Tim Sherwood told the club's official website: "It was William's first game for a while and it was excellent for the younger boys to play alongside him. "He showed how he squeezes play up the pitch, how he uses his body and he manages the game superbly."
