Ferdinand-Hutton loan fails

Tottenham and Sunderland have failed to agree a loan swap involving Anton Ferdinand and Alan Hutton, according to Sky Sports sources. Spurs had been looking to bolster their options in central defence following injuries to Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate earlier in the summer. With just hours of the deadline left on Tuesday, Harry Redknapp, who is known to be a huge fan of Ferdinand, looked to try and land the defender. Redknapp was willing to try and use Hutton to land Ferdinand, in what would have been a direct loan swap. Hutton is part of Redknapp's first-team plans, but he has Vedran Corluka and Kyle Naughton who can play at right-back - so the Scotsman could have moved to the North East.
