Evans: United spurred by Lane success

Manchester United defender Jonny Evans believes the Barclays Premier League champions can take heart from last weekend's win at Tottenham going into the derby match with Manchester City on Sunday.[LNB] United battled back after losing an early goal and then the loss of Paul Scholes, who was sent off, to secure a 3-1 win at White Hart Lane. They followed that impressive performance by beating Besiktas in the Champions League in midweek in Istanbul. Evans believes the mood is good.[LNB] "They have had a great start, but our performance at Spurs was outstanding," he told manutd.com. "I watched from the bench and it's one of the best performances I've seen from us in a long time."[LNB] Following his dismissal in north London, Scholes is suspended against a new-look City side who have won their first four league games. Evans is relishing the derby battle.[LNB] "We all know about the big rivalry between United and City and it's always nice to get the upper hand on them," added Evans.[LNB] "They have put themselves up there now. It's a long season but fair play to them because they've got off to a good start."[LNB] Evans won back his place in midweek and could partner Nemanja Vidic again should Rio Ferdinand continue to struggle with a groin injury. [LNB] Evans added: "I feel very settled among the first-team squad now. I also felt very much part of it last season, but it was kind of a new thing for me. [LNB] "Rio and Nemanja are the top centre-backs in the world and I'm learning a lot from them." [LNB] Manager Sir Alex Ferguson could freshen his side up against City with Ryan Giggs, Dimitar Berbatov, Darren Fletcher and John O'Shea all pushing for recalls.
