England World Cup squad: can Michael Dawson force his way into the final 23?

Capello's favoured duo of Rio Ferdinand and John Terry are certainties, while King and Jamie Carragher's ability to cover different positions means they are on the plane too. [LNB]England supporters using Telegraph Sport's England World Cup squad selector have been voting in their thousands and according to the figures they want Dawson ahead of West Ham captain Matthew Upson. [LNB]But in reality does Dawson stand a chance? Or will Capello stick with what he knows in Upson? [LNB]In favourForm - Dawson was a rock at the back of a Spurs team that kept 13 clean sheet on their way to Champions League qualification.Freshness - at just 26, Dawson is five years younger than Upson and could fare better at altitude where immaculate fitness is required.Compatability - with club colleague King alongside him in the squad Capello would have a ready-made centre-back pairing should the injuries stack up. [LNB]Up against itOut of time - there's only 90 minutes of warm-up action left before the first game against the USA and Dawson is yet to feature.Inexperience - he had a great season with Spurs but has not played football at an elite level. He would be better placed with a season of European action under his belt.Upson - put frankly Upson has never underwhelmed for Capello and despite his struggles with a poor West Ham side the Italian may see no reason to dispense with him. [LNB]What do you think? Should Dawson go to the World Cup?[LNB]Get involved by making a comment below or using our England World Cup squad selector....[LNB][LNB]
