Defoe: Not the end for England squad
Jermain Defoe believes that the current England squad could still be together at the 2014 World Cup despite this summer's disappointment.[LNB] The likes of Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Ashley Cole and John Terry will all be well into their 30s by the time the finals in Brazil come around.[LNB]Many have called on England boss Fabio Capello to overhaul his squad and dump some of his older, bigger names, but Defoe does not necessarily see them all missing out on the chance of featuring at another World Cup.[LNB]"I am sure the players will look at it and think in four years they are not getting any younger," he told Sky Sports News. [LNB]"But if you look after your body and keep yourself fit I don't see why they can't play in the next World Cup."[LNB]Although Defoe does not see the current squad breaking up, he did tip Adam Johnson to break into the squad after being part of the pre-World Cup selection.[LNB]"Johnno in training was brilliant and watching him at Man City I thought he made the difference - he is a great player and great skill," he said.[LNB]Defoe also continued his defence of coach Fabio Capello and rubbished reports that their World Cup campaign was disrupted by disharmony within the camp.[LNB]"When you come back and hear things like that, it is unbelievable, the training was great - everyone got on, the facilities were great - it was good, and quite strange to think where those rumours came from," he said.[LNB]"I think he is definitely the right man for the job, people have their opinions and he doesn't stop being a great manager overnight, look at his CV, he is a top manager and still one of the best in the world."
