Defoe looking to continue run

Jermain Defoe wants the goals to keep on coming following his blistering hat-trick in Wednesday's 5-1 thrashing of Hull City. Defoe failed to find the back of the net against Liverpool in Spurs' season opener, but he proved his form with a deadly trio of strikes at the KC Stadium in midweek. Spurs have started the season with maximum points from their two games so far and the ex-Portsmouth striker says confidence is high. With competition for places intense at White Hart Lane, Defoe is desperate to continue to score the goals that keep him in Harry Redknapp's starting XI. "It gives us massive confidence to get the three points and everyone's done their part," he said. "Scoring goals does give you confidence and I just want to keep it going, keep working hard and hopefully I'll get more. "I'm playing in a good team so I know I'm going to get chances, it's just down to me to take them. "But there is no guarantee you are going to play. We have got fantastic forwards - and it is not only the forwards, it is every position. "That keeps you on your toes and when you get an opportunity you've got to take it otherwise you mightn't be playing the next game." Meanwhile, Redknapp is crossing his fingers defender Ledley King is fit enough to face West Ham on Sunday. King, who is only able to play once a week and unable to train at all, still has a swollen knee from their game against Liverpool. "Ledley doesn't train at all," Redknapp said. "He's been out on the training ground twice since last season. "His knee is like a balloon but it's starting to go down. "On Saturday morning hopefully he'll give me the thumbs up and he'll come and play on Sunday and be on another level. "He just does everything you're not supposed to do by not training, he doesn't kick a ball all week. "It makes you wonder if he eats the right foods but he does nothing. He is just a fantastic, amazing player."
