Riding high: Jermain Defoe celebrates one of his goals at Hull City Fresh from hitting a superb hat-trick in Tottenham's 5-1 demolition of Hull City, red hot striker Jermain Defoe described the feat as the best of his career, but promtly revealed his fears he may still be axed from the team. Defoe claimed his first treble since December 2004 as Spurs climbed to the top of the Premier League. But the striker is not sure his performance at Hull will be enough to keep his place at West Ham on Sunday. He said: 'I think this was the best hat-trick I have ever scored but I am not going to get complacent. 'It is going to be hard to keep my place in the team because we have fantastic players. You have to keep working hard.' Defoe also revealed that a gruelling pre-season fitness regime has propelled the striker to hit top form so early in the season. 'I put the work in over pre-season and am feeling fit, really sharp and strong,' said Defoe. 'I really put a lot into all the gym work and I'm benefiting. I just want to keep going now.'
