Defoe haunts old club

Jermain Defoe's second-half strike was enough to secure a 1-0 victory for Tottenham over West Ham at Beijing's Workers Stadium on Wednesday and secure a place in the final of the Barclays Asia Trophy. The England striker struck in the 75th minute to cap a dominant performance from Spurs. There was added disappointment for the Hammers after losing Luis Boa-Morte early in the game following a challenge with Benoit Assou-Ekotto and there are fears his knee injury could be serious. Spurs enjoyed the better of the chances with Roman Pavlyuchenko rattling the post with a curling effort while Jamie O'Hara also went close. West Ham's best opportunity fell to on-loan midfielder Luis Jimenez who exchanged passes with Carlton Cole before seeing his effort deflected for a corner. The winning goal came 15 minutes from time with Defoe picking up the ball just outside the area before holding off Julien Faubert and despatched a low shot that crept under Green and into the back of the net.
