Defoe eyes goalscoring comeback

Jermain Defoe has put the disappointment of missing out on playing for England by focusing on a goalscoring return when he finally recovers from his hand injury. The Tottenham striker has been in blistering form this season for both club and country. He has six goals in nine games for Spurs, while he has also found the target three times in as many outings for England. That form would have made Defoe a strong contender for a starting place in Fabio Capello's side for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Ukraine and Belarus but a rest could now be beneficial for the Spurs striker. "I've always said any disappointment is a blessing but since pre-season I've felt sharp and things have gone my way both at club level and international level, so I can't really complain," said Defoe. "I can have a rest, get myself focused and make sure that in my next game for the club I'm really firing again."
