TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR winger David Bentley has described his drink-drive crash as a ?wake-up call?.[LNB]Bentley, who was once branded the ?new David Beckham? smashed his £90,000 Porsche 911 into a lamp-post after boozing at a gig in Shoreditch until the early hours of Thursday morning.[LNB]The Spurs winger was found standing in a country lane in Northaw near his home in Cuffley, Herts, at 3am, after he lost control of his sports car.[LNB]He was one-and-a-half times the legal drink limit and will appear at St Albans County Court on 28 August.[LNB] Bentley, who has been capped by England seven times, has been banned twice from driving for exceeding 100mph and was slammed for revealing that he likes to live life on the edge by ?driving too fast in my Ferrari".[LNB]And following his drunken crash, the disgraced player was forced to release a statement on the Spurs official website, condemning his actions.[LNB]The £50,000-a-week footballer said: "I should like to apologise to my club and supporters for my actions which led to my car accident and charge.[LNB]"It was wholly unacceptable and I fully appreciate that as a professional footballer I have a duty to behave in a reputable and responsible manner. I am thankful nobody was injured. This has been a wake-up call, personally and professionally."[LNB]The incident will have Spurs boss Harry Redknapp fuming, after he laid down a booze-ban at White Hart Lane, following club captain Ledley King?s drunken brawl outside a nightclub in May.[LNB]Bentley moved to Spurs for £15m last summer but has failed to land a regular spot in Redknapp?s side and was tipped to leave north London this month, with Aston Villa reportedly interested in signing him.[LNB]But Bentley?s drunken smash is likely to put off any potential pursuers, meaning the winger could be left to rot in the Tottenham reserves.[LNB]
