Vedran Corluka will see a specialist to find out how long he will be out of action for following Matthieu Flamini's brutal tackle in Tottenham's win over AC Milan on Tuesday.
The Croatian had to be carried off on a stretcher after the former Arsenal midfielder flew in with a dangerous two-footed challenge on him in the second half of the 1-0 win in the San Siro.
The right-back left the stadium on crutches with a protective boot around the injured ankle that bore the brunt of the midfielder's challenge. Corluka went for a scan on the ankle on Wednesday and will learn the results from a meeting with a specialist on Thursday.
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp lambasted Flamini for the tackle after the match, claiming that the 24-year-old was lucky not to break his leg.
The challenge sparked rash tackles and frayed tempers that culminated with Gennaro Gattuso head-butting Joe Jordan, but referee Stephane Lannoy adjudged that Flamini's tackle was only worthy of a yellow card.
Corluka's replacement for the last 35 minutes of the match, Jonathan Woodgate, suffered a groin injury during his time on the pitch and how long he will be out for should be known in the next 48 hours.
Spurs released a statement on Wednesday night saying that Woodgate had "sustained a strain of the left adductor muscle."
It was a cruel blow for the former Real Madrid defender, who was making his first appearance for the club after 15 months out with a long-standing groin injury.
The club are confident that he has not suffered a recurrence of his old groin injury and is expected to be out for weeks, rather than months.
