Chelsea receive Modric encouragement

Chelsea have received encouragement from Spurs to make a new offer for Luka Modric as Harry Redknapp fears he doesn't want to stay.

Redknapp has been forced into dropping the midfielder for the north Londoners trip to Old Trafford, and chairman Daniel Levy may be left with no alternative but to accept the Blues' latest £30million offer.

Modric is carrying a slight hamstring problem, but Redknapp told talkSPORT: "He's got a little bit of an injury.

"There's a possibility he could have played through it. But at the moment his head's not in the right place."

Levy has made it clear from the outset on Modric's position at White Hart Lane, insisting he's not for sale at any price, but now that Redknapp is reluctant to play him, the Spurs chief has a major dilemma on his hands.

Chelsea boss Andre Villas-Boas has made it clear that he still wants the services of attacking midfielder Modric, even though the club are close to signing Spanish winger Juan Mata.
