- Champions League draw lowdown

Champions League Draw - As it happened

6.10pm: Diego Milito has won the UEFA club player of the year award.

5.57pm: Auxerre complete a great group containing Ajax, AC Milan and Real Madrid. Russians Rubin Kazan get put in Group D alongside Barcelona, Copenhagen and Panithinaikos.

MSK Zilina from Slovakia get Chelsea, Marseille and Spartak Moscow in Group F on their Champions League debut. Hapoel Tel Aviv of Israel are in Group B with Lyon, Benfica and Shalke.

Dutch champions FC Twente complete Tottenham's very tough group with Inter and Bremen. FK Partizan are the last side out and will face Arsenal, Shaktar and Braga in Group H.

5.55pm: CFR Cluj are drawn in Group E with Bayern, Roma and Basle. Bursaspor from Turkey enter Group C to face Manchester United, Valencia and Rangers.

5.52pm: Inter Milan complete a clean sweep as Diego Milito wins the UEFA club striker of the year award.

5.50pm: New boys SC Braga will be heading to the Emirates as they get drawn in Group H with Arsenal and Shaktar. Ajax get Real Madrid and AC Milan as German club Shalke are paired with Lyon and Benfica.

5.45pm: Now it's getting interesting. Rangers are first out and have been drawn in Group C alongside Man United and Valencia. FC Copenhagen come out second and will face Barcelona and Panathinakos. So Barca are pretty much through already then.

TOTTENHAM ARE OUT AND WILL FACE INTER MILAN AND WERDER BREMEN IN GROUP A! Very tough draw for Harry Redknapp's side.

Spartak Moscow are drawn with Chelsea and Marseille in Group F, while FC Basle get stuck with Bayern Munich and Roma.

5.42pm: Chelsea legend Gianfranco Zola enters the stage to announce the UEFA club midfielder of the year. The nominees are Arjen Robben of Bayern Munich, Xavi of Barcelona and Wesley Sneijder of Inter. Sneijder picks up the award after a wonderful season with the Italian treble winners. He even dedicates it to his wife, ahhhh...

5.40pm: Arsenal will travel to Ukraine as Shaktar Donetsk are drawn in Group H. Tough draw for Panithaikos as they join Barca in Group D. Chelsea get French champions Marseille in Group F and Werder Bremen meet reigning champions Inter Milan in Group A.

5.38pm: Valencia are first out and will join Manchester United in Group C - not easy for Sir Alex Ferguson's men. Real Madrid are next out and will face AC Milan - relief for the English clubs there. Roma join Bayern Munich in Group E and Benfica are paired in Group B with Lyon.

5.36pm: Next up is the UEFA club defender of the year. Inter Milan's Maicon picks up the gong, beating team-mate Lucio and Barca's Gerard Pique. I think this means the Brazilian will be picking out the second seeds...

5.34pm: Julio Cesar has just picked his own side Inter Milan out of the bowl, they will play in Group A. Arsenal will play in Group H thanks to ex-Tottenham striker Lineker who is picking the groups. Chelsea are out last and will play in Group F.

5.32pm: AC Milan will play in Group G, Bayern Munich in Group E and Lyon in Group B.

5.30pm: And we're off! Manchester United are first out and will play in Group C. Barcelona are next out and will be the top seed in Group D.

5.25pm: What a lovely surprise! As this season's final will be at Wembley, UEFA have enlisted England legend Gary Lineker to help with the draw. Do us proud Gary...

5.20pm: As well as the group stage draw we're also going to find out who is the UEFA club player of the year. Unsurprisingly Inter Milan's Julio Cesar has just been announced as the UEFA club goalkeeper of the year.

5.15pm: The draw has officially started. Well sort of. At the moment we're being treated to some highlights from last season's competition and it looks like it could be a while until we know who's playing who.

5.00pm: We're not far away from the start of the draw now and I think I've managed to work out the hardest group Spurs could get. I reckon it's Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Auxerre, while the easiest would be Lyon, Panathinaikos and MSK Zilina. Whoever they get it's going to be tough...

4.45pm: If you aren't sure how the draw works then here's an idiots guide to get you prepared. The 32 qualified teams will be split into eight groups of four teams. Each group will contain a top seed, plus one team from the secon, third and fourth pots. Each pot is determined by a club's UEFA coefficient (don't ask how that's worked out). Sides from the same country can't meet until at least the quarter-finals, although Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal could all meet Glasgow Rangers. As Real Madrid are in pot two, they can meet any of the five British clubs.

4.30pm: I'm here! Sadly not in Monaco but still ready to bring you all the action as the Champions League group stage draw unfolds. Tottenham fans must be getting a little bit excited right about now - Barcelona or Real Madrid at White Hart Lane anyone?

3.30pm: While Joe makes his way over to Monaco (ok, back his house in a London suburb), why not peruse the pots to see who could draw who. They'll be one team from each pot in each group - and remember no two teams from the same country can draw each other.

Pots for Champions League draw:

Pot one: Inter Milan, Barcelona, Man Utd, Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Lyon.

Pot two: Werder Bremen, Real Madrid, Roma, Shakhtar Donetsk, Benfica, Valencia, Marseille, Panathinaikos.

Pot three: Tottenham, Rangers, Ajax, Schalke, Basle, Braga, FC Copenhagen, Spartak Moscow.

Pot four: Hapoel Tel Aviv, FC Twente, Rubin Kazan, Auxerre, CFR Cluj, Partizan Belgrade, MSK Zilina, Bursaspor.
