Boa Morte blow as West Ham lose to Spurs in Beijing

West Ham United striker Luis Boa Morte was taken to hospital after being injured less than 10 minutes into a 1-0 defeat by Tottenham Hotspur in the opening match of the Premier League's Asia Trophy on Wednesday. The 31-year-old Portugal international collapsed in agony after tackling Spurs left back Benoit Assou-Ekotto and was fitted with a knee brace before being taken off the Workers' Stadium pitch on a stretcher. The club's website (http://www.whufc.com ) confirmed the former Arsenal, Southampton and Fulham player was taken to hospital and manager Gianfranco Zola told Sky Sports he would have a scan. Spurs were the sharper of the two London rivals and Jermain Defoe's 75th-minute strike was enough to send them through to Friday's final against the winner of Wednesday's second match between Beijing Guoan and Premier League Hull City.
