Bentley has Spurs future
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp insists that winger David Bentley has a future at the club.
The 24-year-old has been unable to recapture the form which persuaded Spurs to part with £15million for him in the summer.
The former Arsenal youngster's form for Blackburn over the past few seasons even gained him international recognition with five of his six England caps coming during his time at Rovers.
But with the North London club struggling for form all season long Bentley has seen his own form dip alarmingly.
The right winger's penalty miss in the Carling Cup final against Manchester United on Sunday epitomised his season so far with some Spurs fans beginning to lose faith in him but Redknapp disagrees.
"He's got a real quality and both he and Jamie O'Hara unfortunately
missed penalties but have a big part to play in the future of Tottenham," he said.
"David's not as confident as people think and football is a game of confidence.
"He's a good lad, a lot of people have the wrong idea about him and think he is a 'jack the lad' or flashy.
"He's not, he's a dedicated footballer who trains hard. He hasn't been in great form as he was last year at Blackburn but I'm sure he'll be back to that.
"He wants to get back to that and wants to get back in the England team. I can't fault his effort or attitude."
Team-mate and fellow midfielder Didier Zokora highlighted that Bentley needed his manager's backing during the most challenging spell of his career.
"David Bentley needs the confidence of the manager," he told the Evening Standard.
"When the player has the confidence he wants to play 100 per cent. For him, it is difficult but he can come back quickly.
"He is a strong personality and he brings a great atmosphere to the dressing room, because he talks to everybody."
