Bent signs four-year deal at Sunderland as Bruce gets his man from Spurs

Sunderland manager Steve Bruce finally got his man after Darren Bent signed from Tottenham.   The initial £10million deal - which could rise to as much as £16.5m with various appearance clauses - dragged on for a number of days, resulting in growing frustration all round. But 25-year-old Bent has put pen to paper on a four-year deal to become the Black Cats' record signing. 'Good things come to those who wait,' said Bruce. 'He's everything I want. He has 50 goals in 100 Premier League starts and that speaks volumes about why we are bringing him to the club. 'He's had the competition of the likes of Dimitar Berbatov, Jermain Defoe and Robbie Keane, but he has still scored goals when he's been given games. He's something different - he's got pace, power, he's young, he's English and he gets goals.' Spurs had hoped to use the cash from the Bent transfer to bring in Klaas-Jan Huntelaar but reports in Italy have claimed the Real Madrid striker is on his way to AC Milan for £13m. Bruce, meanwhile, is apparently also chasing highly-rated 21-year-old Egyptian winger Ahmed Al-Muhammadi, who plays for ENPPI.   Speaking to Modern Sport TV, the player's agent Nader Shawki, said: 'Al-Muhammadi had a successful trial with Sunderland at the weekend and Bruce was impressed. Negotiations between Sunderland and ENPPI should be concluded in the next few days.'
