Bassong given all-clear

Tottenham have received a welcome boost with the news that Sebastien Bassong is free from injury. The Cameroon international was forced out of Spurs' meeting with capital rivals Chelsea on Sunday after tangling with Blues striker Nicolas Anelka. He left the Stamford Bridge playing surface in a neck brace amid fears that he may have suffered a serious knock. However, despite suffering a concussion after taking a heavy fall, medical tests have shown that Bassong has suffered no serious damage. Spurs are, however, still awaiting news on club captain Ledley King, who was also unable to last the 90 minutes against Chelsea after tweaking a hamstring. "Sebastien Bassong was back at Spurs Lodge today (Monday) for further assessment after being given the all-clear by a head and neck consultant at a hospital on Sunday evening," read a statement released on the club's official website. "The Cameroon international centre-half was stretchered off after suffering a head injury in the second half of our fixture against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. "Ledley King will undergo a scan on his right hamstring after also being forced off with injury early on in the second half yesterday afternoon." Harry Redknapp will be hoping for further good news on King, as his defensive options have already been severely hampered by blows to Michael Dawson and Jonathan Woodgate.
