Bale on Burnley

Gareth Bale says we'll take the confidence gained from Sunday's performance against Portsmouth into our quest for Wembley at Burnley on Wednesday night. We travel to Turf Moor for our Carling Cup semi-final, second leg with a 4-1 lead from the first leg at the Lane. The aggregate winners of the tie will face Manchester United in the final at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, March 1. Sunday's display against Pompey certainly raised spirits after the previous late, late loss at Wigan and few would argue that we deserved maximum points after showing real character to come from 1-0 down. "I thought we put a lot of hard work in and showed the character needed to climb away from the foot of the table," reflected Gareth. "We were 1-0 down but I felt that brought out the character of the players and we showed how much we want to get out of the relegation dogfight. "We can certainly look up from here, try to get a winning run going and push up the table. "We know what Burnley are capable of and we now need to show the same spirit, to work hard, stay solid as a team and try to do what we did in the second half of the first leg. "We will go there full of confidence and hopefully we'll get to Wembley again. "Burnley will have to come forward, they need three goals so maybe there will be spaces there for us to exploit but first and foremost we have to stay tight as a defensive unit." Gareth admitted reaching Wembley would mean so much - not least as he had to watch last season's success against Chelsea from the sidelines and on crutches as he recovered from a foot injury. "It's massive - every player wants to get to a cup final," added the full-back. "Everyone who had a taste of it last season wants it again and again so we'll do our best at Burnley and hopefully we'll come out winners."
