Tottenham have confirmed that defender Benoit Assou-Ekotto has signed a new four-year deal at the club. The 25-year-old joined Spurs from French side Lens in 2006 and has managed to hold down a regular first-team spot at left-back. The Cameroon international was voted Tottenham's most improved player during last season and has now been rewarded with a deal lasting until 2013. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp described Assou-Ekotto as "an outstanding left-back" at the end of the last campaign and he looks set to retain his place in the side ahead of Gareth Bale. Assou-Ekotto scored his first goal for the club with a brilliant strike against Liverpool on Sunday.
