Arsene beware ... Gazza was my role model, admits Arshavin

Andrey Arshavin has a role model to strike fear into the heart of Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger and the club's supporters: Paul Gascoigne. When the Russian playmaker, who admits he is homesick in London, was asked to name his favourite English player of all time, he chose former Tottenham star Gascoigne. Arshavin was not quite 10 when Gascoigne scored the famous free-kick in Tottenham's FA Cup semi-final win over Arsenal at Wembley in 1991 and is set to start for Wenger's team in today's fifth-round tie against Burnley. Arshavin said: 'I liked Paul Gascoigne a lot. He was an extraordinary person both on and off the pitch.' When reminded of Gascoigne's colourful past and affiliation to Spurs, Arshavin added: 'He always remained his own self which is of utmost importance.'
