Are Spurs targeting this Everton defender?

Tottenham are being linked with a move for Everton defender Leighton Baines. Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is an admirer of the England International, and could entice the left back to White Hart Lane, especially if they manage to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Baines has been heavily linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, and reports suggest Sir Alex Ferguson is confident he’ll get his man.

United have been chasing the 28-year-old for almost 2 years but Everton’s £15M asking price has impeded the move. But as his contract winds down in to the final 2 years, the asking price is set to be reduced to around £12M.

Real Madrid’s Fabio Coentrao is also on AVB’s radar, but the Portugues left-back has finally found his place over Marcelo in the Spanish side’s starting 11. Baines is likely to be the cheaper option, as a product of Mourinho’s Real Madrid is always going to break the bank.

Baines has impressed for Everton this season, scoring 8 goals in 27 Premier League starts. Also, his all-round contribution to Everton’s impressive campaign earned him a place in this year’s PFA Team of the Year.
