Tottenham Hotspur have had a bid rejected by Everton for young defender John Stones, claims the Sun. The defender shot to prominence last season with some exceptional displays for the toffees earning the the 20 year old a stand by spot in England's World cup squad that went to Brazil.

Stones can play at the heart of the back four or in the full back position and would provide much needed cover for a Tottenham side that leaked 51 goals in the Premier League last season.

Although the bid is reported to of been rejected the news will further fuel speculation regarding the future of Michael Dawson who BBC Radio Humberside now claim in talks with Hull City over a move to the FA Cup Finalists.

Dawson is currently the longest serving player on the books at Spurs and the move would end an nine year affiliation with the White Hart lane outfit.
