New contract for Gulls skipper

League Two new boys Torquay United have announced that club captain Christian Hargreaves has signed a new one-year deal with the club.

Hargreaves is to combine playing with a coaching role at Plainmoor, as the club prepare for their return to the Football League.

The 37-year-old has made 95 appearances for the Gulls since his arrival at the club in 2007.

He told the club's official website: "There was only one club I wanted to sign for and it was just a matter of when.

"There were a couple of things to sort out but it was nothing that was going to be a deal-breaker so it wasn't done quite as soon as I'd have hoped.

"I'm delighted to have signed a new contract."

Hargreaves started his playing career in 1989 with Grimsby Town before going on to have spells at Hull City, Hereford United, Plymouth Argyle, Northampton Town, Brentford and Oxford United, as well as short periods at Scarborough and West Brom.
