Gulls take Murray risk

Torquay United chairman Mike Bateson has admitted he almost had second thoughts before deciding to go ahead with the deal to bring Carlisle United midfielder Adam Murray to Plainmoor.

Bateson was disappointed with the attendance for Saturday's 2-2 draw with Chester City but has still opted to bring the 24-year-old to Devon.

"We were pretty well set up to do a deal a few days ago but to be frank the low attendance for the Chester match caused me to stop and think," he told the club's official website.

"Having thought about it and remembering last season I decided to go for it but I would appreciate a few of the floating supporters turning up to make it worthwhile.

"Adam is an extremely good player with an excellent pedigree and he was top of Ian Atkins' Christmas wish list. Christmas has come early!"
