Torquay United boss Ian Atkins is on the verge of snapping up Cardiff City full-back Joe Jacobson on loan.
The 19-year-old made his Bluebirds debut as a substitute in last season's home defeat to Norwich City and started this term's home loss to Barnet in the Carling Cup.
He is also a Wales Under-21 international and starred in the games against Israel and Turkey earlier this season.
Atkins is looking to halt his side's recent slump.
The Gulls came from behind to beat Leatherhead in the FA Cup on Saturday, but have taken only two points from their last eight League Two matches and have failed to score in the last six.
