Buckle: A genuine mistake

Torquay manager Paul Buckle has apologised for the "genuine mistake" that saw an ineligible player take to the field against Hereford on Tuesday night. The Gulls handed debuts to Jake Robinson - on loan from Shrewsbury - and Craig Stanley, who recently joined the club from Morecambe on a temporary deal. One of those two players was not eligible to play."It was a genuine mistake and an admin error, which we held our hands up to," Buckle told the club's official website. "We did that straightaway."The fact we had a director come down to the dugout and tell me to take the player off shows the integrity of the club."We would never want to play someone who shouldn't play. We would never do that in a million years."Buckle said the rush of the January transfer window closing was to blame, adding: "We will wait and see what happens. Hopefully it will be a fine because we don't want any points to be deducted - I don't think that would be fair. Hopefully we get our fine and we'll take that on the chin and move on."
