Benyon brace lifts high-flying Gulls

14 August 2010 05:31
Torquay United and Shrewsbury Town are the only two teams to have won both their games so far this season in League Two after beating Lincoln City and Macclesfield Town respectively. The Gulls won 2-0 at pointless Lincoln City with Elliot Benyon scoring once in each half while Graham Turner's Shrewsbury side edged past the Silkmen 1-0 at Moss Rose with Matt Harrold netting after only three minutes. Elsewhere, Marvin Morgan scored with only nine minutes remaining as Aldershot Town beat Southend United 1-0, while Gareth Evans' 32nd-minute penalty ensured Bradford City built on their midweek Carling Cup success against Nottingham Forest by beating Stevenage by the same scoreline. Underhill hosted a goalless stalemate between Barnet and Burton Albion while Hereford United and Gillingham also failed to conjure up a goal at Edgar Street. Crewe's poor start to the campaign continued with a 3-2 defeat at Cheltenham Town while Bury secured a 2-1 victory at newly-promoted Oxford United. Morecambe were held to a goalless draw by Rotherham United and the game between Northampton Town and Accrington Stanley also ended in a stalemate. The fifth goalless draw of the day took place at Edgeley Park as Stockport County and Wycombe Wanderers both failed to find the net, while Dwayne Mattis grabbed a last equaliser for Chesterfield as the Spireites drew 1-1 at Port Vale.
