Wroe brace silences Chairboys

Two terrific goals by midfielder Nicky Wroe helped Torquay to a deserved 3-1 win over Wycombe at Adams Park. The Gulls had to come from behind after Stuart Beavon opened the scoring but Wroe turned the match around for the visitors before Elliot Benyon sealed it late on. Wycombe made a great start when, in the seventh minute, Beavon's scrambled effort was judged to have crossed the line after Torquay goalkeeper Scott Bevan had denied Ben Strevens. Chairboys captain Gareth Ainsworth then came close to scoring one of the goals of the season when his volley from 35 yards dipped just over the bar. Torquay drew level through a brilliant shot into the top corner from 20 yards by Wroe after Wycombe failed to clear a corner. The Gulls went ahead four minutes into the second half through a superb individual goal by Wroe, who beat Kevin Betsy before bending his shot into the far corner. Benyon then finished neatly when through one-on-one with two minutes left to settle matters.
