Benyon set for second Gulls debut

Elliot Benyon could go straight into the starting line-up for the visit of Rotherham after his return to Torquay.

The Gulls were without top scorer Rene Howe for the 1-0 defeat to Fleetwood on Saturday and with the big striker still absent while he serves the second game of a two-match ban Benyon could be given the nod.

The Southend man rejoined the club where he spent three-and-a-half years on Sunday night, signing an initial one-month loan deal with an option agreed to extend his stay until the end of the season.

If Benyon starts on his return to Plainmoor it could mean Ashley Yeoman dropping to the bench.

Assistant manager Shaun Taylor will once again take charge of the team in the absence of manager Martin Ling and he could stick with Daniel Leadbitter at right-back after Joe Oastler missed Saturday's match through injury.

After the loss on the weekend Torquay are seven points clear of the relegation zone and ten points off the npower League Two play-off spots.

Rotherham boss Steve Evans will be forced into changes.

The Millers were reduced to nine-men in Saturday's defeat to Burton following the dismissal of midfielders David Noble and Michael O'Conno, who both begin bans.

Noble will sit out one game afer picking up two yellow cards while O'Connor misses three following his straight red card for a stamp.

Lee Frecklington is likely to start in the centre of midfield along with Kari Arnason, who will move up from defence, allowing Claude Davis back into the side at centre-half.

Striker Daniel Nardiello took a kick in that loss at the Pirelli Stadium and was withdrawn, so he faces a test ahead of kick-off to see whether he will play any part.

Craig Morgan (foot) and Scott Shearer (elbow) are about a week away from returning to fitness and are the only occupants of the treatment room.
