Gulls soar once more

Rene Howe, making a miraculous recovery after being knocked out at Southend last Saturday, scored twice as Torquay ended an eight-match winless run with a 4-0 victory against AFC Wimbledon.

Howe was only cleared to play on the morning of the game, but he joined in a devastating display of finishing by Martin Ling's Gulls.

Wimbledon, who have now conceded 12 goals in three games, dominated possession and territory for long periods of the first half. But once Danny Stevens had broken the deadlock, cutting inside for a deflected 22-yard shot in the 32nd minute, it was a non-contest.

Torquay hit Terry Brown's Dons with two goals in two minutes just before the break.

The impressive Eunan O'Kane robbed Callum McNaughton before coolly scoring the second in the 43rd minute and Howe finished a slick move with a first-time volley on the stroke of half time.

Howe blasted a 25-yard drive past Seb Brown for his sixth goal of the season in the 56th minute, and a faultless display of handling by Bobby Olejnik in goal ensured a clean-sheet for Torquay.
