Gulls soar into top four Torquay maintained their promotion push by beating Cheltenham 2-1 - their third win in four unbeaten League Two matches to soar to fourth in the table. The hosts took the lead when Chris Zebroski played a superb cross-field pass out to the left wing to Jake Robinson, whose shot was diverted out for a corner. Craig Stanley's 28th-minute corner from the left was met with a downward header by central defender Guy Branston, for his second goal in successive games. Cheltenham countered with former Torquay forward Matt Green smashing a low angled drive across the face of Scott Bevan's goal and just wide. Robins goalkeeper Scott Brown was in early action, saving low from in-form Gulls winger Jake Robinson and then brilliantly tipping over Ronan Murray's dipping 25-yard effort. In the 12th minute United central defender Chris Robertson had a headed effort ruled out for pushing following Kevin Nicholson's corner from the right. Brown made a superb one-handed diving stop to palm out Gavin Tomlin's 49th-minute low drive from the edge of the box. In the 71st minute on-loan Ipswich teenager Murray finally claimed his first Gulls goal with a clinical six-yard finish. Cheltenham defender Danny Andrew gave the Robins a late lifeline with a thumping 89th-minute free-kick that Bevan found too hot to hold.
