Torquay 2-0 Stevenage: Match Report

05 March 2011 17:49
Gulls on the climb Torquay pushed nearer the play-off zone with a convincing 2-0 win over 10-man Stevenage - despite missing a second-half penalty. Danny Stevens rocketed in a 46th-minute goal after debutant Ben Pringle - on loan from Derby County - smashed a 20-yarder off the face of the crossbar. Stevens then engineered an 84th-minute goal for Jake Robinson, whose initial shot was saved by Chris Day. The ball flew back out to Robinson, who crashed the ball home past Day. United could have been three to the good by that time but Chris Zebroski's penalty came back off the crossbar after he had been fouled on his way to goal by Stevenage skipper Mark Roberts. Roberts saw red for bringing down Zebroski, after he pounced on a back pass to round keeper Day. United's on-loan Shrewsbury forward Robinson signalled his early intent by testing Stevenage number one Day from 30 yards in the first minute. Day was tested again later in the half by another scorcher from Robinson as United went in search of the opener.
