Torquay 1-0 Carlisle: Match Report

O'Kane stuns Cumbrians Eunan O'Kane scored the only goal of the game as Torquay dumped League One Carlisle out of the FA Cup. The Northern Ireland Under-21 midfielder struck with a thumping right-foot drive after just six minutes as to send Paul Buckle's League Two outfit into the fourth round. Buckle's side could have won more comfortably but Carlisle goalkeeper Adam Collin went full stretch to keep out a low drive from Torquay leading scorer Elliot Benyon. Collin twice had to deny 13-goal Benyon in the opening exchanges, while home keeper Scott Bevan was also tested twice by Cumbrians dangerman Francois Zoko. The lively O'Kane curled a shot around the far post after 27 minutes as the home side continued to exert pressure on Greg Abbott's side. Bevan had to palm out a 25-yard dipping free-kick from Matt Robson as Carlisle countered. The visitors almost salvaged a replay in the 83rd minute after a goalmouth scramble, but the Gulls could have scored on the counter as Kevin Nicholson sent a 30-yard shot inches wide from the far left. Benyon also went close again but his miss did not prove to be costly as Torquay held on for a fine victory.
