Blues celebrate survival

Wycombe beat already-relegated Torquay 3-0 to secure their Football League status.

The Blues got off to a perfect start when Sam Wood fired them 1-0 up in the fifth minute following Matt Bloomfield's deep cross from the right.

Wood missed his first attempt but managed to steady himself and rifled the ball in at the second attempt from six yards.

Wanderers surged further ahead from Steve Craig's 41st minute penalty after Anthony O'Connor fouled Matt McClure after the striker won the ball from Torquay player of the season Krystian Pearce.

McClure lobbed Torquay goalkeeper Martin Rice on 61 minutes to make it 3-0, 10 minutes after O'Connor was red carded for a second bookable offence for a foul on McClure.

Wood had a superb game for Wanderers. In the 10th minute he cleared Pearce's reaction shot off the goal-line after the United central defender's downward header came back off the post.

Craig's cool penalty conversion atoned for a 24th minute miss after Wood's thumping out-of-the-blue 25 yard volley flew back off the post. With keeper Rice still on the floor, Craig fired wide of the unguarded goal.

Wood came to the fore again when he cleared from United striker Elliot Benyon as the Torquay forward swooped to latch on to Courtney Cameron's cross from the left.
