Gulls seal Devon derby double

Torquay completed the Devon derby double over struggling rivals Plymouth with a 2-1 win at Home Park thanks to second-half goals from Billy Bodin and Lee Mansell.

The Gulls had the better chances in the first half with central defender Mark Ellis flashing a header just wide from Eunan O'Kane's 10th-minute corner.

Nine minutes later, Ellis met Kevin Nicholson's corner with a powerful downward header which was superbly saved by Plymouth goalkeeper Jake Cole.

Torquay went in front in the 58th minute when a free-kick from O'Kane was headed back across goal by Chris Robertson and Bodin was on hand to fire in from 12 yards.

Six minutes later, Gulls skipper Mansell met a cross from O'Kane and fired in a first-time shot to make it 2-0.

Argyle responded with skipper Simon Walton surging forward from midfield to head Warren Feeney's deep cross over Torquay goalkeeper Bobby Olejnik and into the path of the onrushing Luke Young, who nodded in on the line.

Young was denied a second goal in the 82nd minute by a superb block from Robertson as Torquay held on for the win.
