Benyon ban hits Gulls

Torquay will be without influential striker Elliot Benyon for the FA Cup second-round visit of Walsall. The 10-goal leading scorer was shown his fifth booking of the season for his celebrations after scoring the club`s third goal in their 3-1 win at Wycombe on Tuesday. The yellow card went unnoticed by most media sources but was registered by referee Gavin Ward and Torquay have received notice of his suspension by the Football Association. Benyon`s impressive form this season meant he was heavily linked with a move away from Plainmoor ahead of Thursday`s emergency loan deadline but a deal failed to materialise and manager Paul Buckle will be delighted to have kept hold of his star man. Other than Benyon`s enforced absence, the United boss has no injury problems to contend with and has all four loan players at his disposal for the visit of a struggling Saddlers side who prop up the League One table.
